Solar Cooling
The global demand for air conditioning, particularly in commercial and industrial building applications, is considerable. Using traditional energy technology it costs around 4x more to cool a room than to heat it. Solar and solar-assisted air conditioning systems can be reasonable alternatives to conventional air conditioning systems. Such systems have advantages over those that use problematic coolants (CFCs), not to mention the incidental CO2 emissions that are taking on increasingly critical values.
Solar cooling (air conditioning) uses the sun, which heats buildings, to also deliver energy to cool them. The need for building cooling and solar radiation intensity are closely correlated – hot sunny days provide the greatest amount of energy for cooling.
